Sadly my home town, Newquay has a bit of a bad name, but a group of local businesses have banded together and are putting effort and resources into improving the image of the town. Part of the campaign is the launch of a free magazine, Seven, and I was commissioned to photograph the town and people of Newquay.
Here are some of the shots. I love the ones of the Gannel which is truly one of Newquay’s magical secret places. The old abandoned boat reminded me somehow of an ancient Greek Trireme from the front. I especially enjoyed shooting here, and also shooting some slow shutter speed photography at Fistral. It’s at these times when I lose track of time and get into a flow state as I try to get the shot. This is often when I create my best work.
You can see the whole magazine online on Issuu.com.
