Photos of lightning storm at sea off Newquay

It was a stormy night in Newquay last night. The storm lasted for a long time and I watched it out at sea from Watergate Bay and took a few photos from the safety of my car. I’ve always wanted to take photos of lightning and have never been in the right place to get it.

The storm was a bit too far away and I didn’t get a nice bit of forked lightning, but I’m quite pleased with these photos of  the storm far out to sea. It was quite a sight, lots of regular lightning strikes, too far away to hear the thunder mostly.

For the technically minded I set the camera on a tripod on “B” and held the shutter open with a remote release cable. The camera was set on ISO 800, f3.5.
